Holy cow, I did not realize quite how long the panther platform went on. Found this gem on carmax
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I love how it still has a cassette player. Its just says, yeah, I’m old, why do you care???
Is it bad I kinda want one?

that thing is super clean, but crazy expensive for what it is. I plan to use Panthers as my commuter car for years to come. Have an 04 Vic now and hoping I can just keep picking up lower mileage ones cheap.

Are those Mustang gauges? I believe the Town Car lasted the longest, being killed after the 2011 model year.

Agreed. I even found a 2011 one lol higher miles though, really clean as well.
With parts so cheap and bulletproof mechanicals, I definitely see the appeal

They look pretty close for sure

I don’t mind seeing a cassette player in a 2010 model, but it irks me not to see an AUX jack. I guess Mercury was really doubling down on assuming that only elderly drivers would be buying these.

The only thing that has sucked about mine in 3 years and 40,000 miles of ownership have been rear axle seals and brakes that wear quickly. Speaking of which, I get to put a seal in it this weekend, which I’m not looking forward to.

Probably a safe bet. My fiancee’s grandparents both drive one. I imagine it would be pretty simple to add one though. Worst case, use one of those cheap cassette adapters.

This reminds me that I wrote this a few years ago, right as the Panther was announced for retirement.

they were soild till 2012 as crown vic’s to fleet but general sales ended in 2011 for towncars. 1979 to 2012, not a bad run!

I’ve owned 3 Panthers, a 98 grand Marquis, 99 CVPI P71 and an 05 CVPI P71. Amazingly competent and fun cars to own. Would recommend a post 03 model due to the mechanical and structural upgrades.

I remember the day the last one rolled off I couldn’t get there, but my rep was. Kinda a bummer when we shipped the last parts to them.
